Rally Chile: Ott Tänak, Neuville’s enemy brother

Rally Chile: Ott Tänak, Neuville’s enemy brother
Rally Chile: Ott Tänak, Neuville’s enemy brother

A question of balance.

A certainty from the start: the Hyundai driver who had announced his return to the Korean manufacturer, just a year ago, has chosen to remain silent since the start of this Rally of Chile. Winner here in 2022 on Toyota and last year at the wheel of Ford Puma M-Sport, he is nevertheless the first driver in the championship to be able to win the same rally three times in a row on three different cars, as this terrain suits him. “It is true that I have the diversity of this Rally of Chile which brings together a variety of terrains and rhythms”he blurted. “The key will be to manage the tires well while maintaining a good pace. But, mainly, it will be a question of balance and confidence in the car…”

Nothing new under the barely revealed Chilean sun. However, to this day Ott Tänak remains the perfect enemy brother of Thierry Neuville. Despite his setbacks in Poland and Finland, the Estonian is in second place in the drivers’ standings. And it comes to us that the result of this antepenultimate world round could decide the end of season strategy in the South Korean clan. If by chance the 2019 world champion were to considerably reduce the gap with his Belgian teammate, the strategy at Hyundai could remain open. Otherwise, the team orders could fall to ensure the conquest of the two world titles. That of the drivers for Neuville and that of the manufacturers for Hyundai.
