In the morning of Saturday September 21, 2024it was a special moment for the Basket Club Flamanville Les Pieux (BCFP) in Manche, but especially for Antoine Desmoulins and his son Yanis.

A first

The match against Urville, although lost, will be remembered for a completely different reason: father and son played together for the first time in competition.

For Antoine, player and coachit was a moment full of emotions. Yanis, at only 16 years old, upgraded to U18, had the chance to join the seniors and therefore… to share the land with his father.

Yanis, 16, following in the footsteps of his parents

Yanis is not new in the club. He started on basketball at just 4 years old, following in the footsteps of his parentsAntoine and Sabrina, who have been part of the BCFP for 22 years.

In the familybasketball is not simply a sportit is a passion. Antoine has been playing for 40 years and Sabrina hasn’t given up on the ball either. So, naturally, Yanis and his brother Marius, 9 years old, also took a liking to basketball from the time they were younger age.

It was practical for family organization. We pushed them a little at first, but very quickly, they got hooked.

Anthony

And since start of this seasonYanis has the opportunity to develop with the seniors, and the idea of playing alongside his father clearly influenced his decision to stay at the club, despite some requests elsewhere.

“He didn’t want to miss this opportunity,” confides Antoine, a bit proud.

A strong moment on the floor

THE match started with father and son on the bench. A special moment for Antoine, who could not hide his emotion by sending his son onto the field:

I told him, “Go ahead, get on the field and show what you can do,” and then I had a big surge of emotions.

Anthony

Yanis played about 15 to 20 minutes, and although the two did not particularly shine together against a tough opponentthe essential was elsewhere.

“We stayed focused on the game, but it still felt something to share it with him,” says Antoine. Yanis, for his part, smiles: “It’s still something at 16 to play with your father in competition. »

A complicity that only asks to grow

Even if the father-son bond was not obvious in this first match, it will undoubtedly be more expressed in the next ones, especially against less formidable opponents.

At homeit’s been years already let them train togetherthen on the ground, it will come naturally. This first match will in any case remain a unforgettable memory for them.

Marius, for his part, could well follow in their footsteps in a few years and continue the family tradition. For the Desmoulins, basketball is above all a family affair.
