Four days after finding himself in the eye of the storm following a stunning Olympico between OL and OM (2-3), Benoît Bastien had a less turbulent evening, but with seven cards all likewise, this Thursday, in Istanbul during Fenerbahçe – Union Saint-Gilloise (2-1). While Medhi Benatia, OM sports advisor, sharply criticized him at the final whistle for having expelled Leonardo Balerdi in the 5th minute for a second warning (which led the National Ethics Council to take up the disciplinary committee of the LFP), the French referee notably distributed two red cards.
