Tim Howard says Pep Guardiola ‘ruined football’ – International – United States

No solidarity between bald people for Tim Howard.

Retired since 2020, the former goalkeeper of the Team USA doesn’t seem to have Pep Guardiola in his heart. In a discussion with Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville for the English podcast It’s Called Soccer! , Everton’s legendary goalkeeper has strongly criticised the possession game implemented by the Spanish coach for more than fifteen years and which has inspired a whole generation of coaches. “Pep Guardiola has ruined football in every sense of the word,Howard explained. He told everyone that you can play this way, but it’s not true. Only three teams in the world can do it properly. Sometimes you have to be more pragmatic.”

The bearded man then highlighted the more flexible game developed by Mauricio Pochettinothe new United States coach, who seems to better suit his personal vision of football. “If you look at his best teams at Tottenham, his players had the opportunity to express themselves, but they were ultimately very solid defensively. If he tries to instill those ideas, the United States has enough players in the attacking zones to be dangerous.”

Let’s reassure Howard: it’s not tomorrow that Guardiola will fall back on the US selection.
