Oakland A’s: A final high-tension match to be expected

The eyes of the sports world will be on Oakland on Thursday afternoon, when the Athletics play their final game in this city, and the emotion will certainly be at its peak in the stands of the old Coliseum.

Present in California for the occasion, our journalist Jean-Nicolas Blanchet was able to observe in recent days that bitterness and resentment are palpable inside the stadium and around it. Baseball fans simply do not accept the way the club’s big boss does things and the lack of consideration shown towards them. Many of them do not hesitate to show their discontent during games, notably inviting owner John Fisher to sell the franchise.

THE MATCH BETWEEN THE A’S AND THE TEXAS RANGERS WILL BE BROADCAST ON TVA SPORTS AT 3:30 P.M.

“Here, it’s different from Montreal [en 2004]. The fans are very angry with John Fisher. There is really nothing organized, the players were asked to leave the field after the last out in tomorrow’s game and we don’t know if there will be speeches on the field like there was with the Expos. So, there is a bit of uncertainty and I would even say that the last game will be held under high tension, mentioned the Journal columnist during an interview with TVA Sports during the Toronto Blue Jays matchup, Wednesday night. It will be packed here and we can’t say how it will turn out.”

“Because of the history of the A’s, I think it deserves a peaceful farewell. To me, it seems obvious,” he continued.

Jean-Nicolas Blanchet also mentioned the many problems that have affected the A’s directly or indirectly in recent years, whether it be Fisher’s choice not to invest more in the club’s workforce, the obsolescence of the stadium or the surrounding insecurity, as well as the difficulties of the Oakland market which has already lost the Raiders (moved to Las Vegas) and the Golden State Warriors (left for San Francisco).

Until they move to Las Vegas in 2028, the A’s will play next season in a minor league stadium in Sacramento.
