The phrase ‘sent to the slaughterhouse’ may sound a bit strong, but Stuart Skinner was put in a position with little chance of success on Wednesday night.

The Edmonton Oilers goalie faced the Winnipeg Jets in a preseason game as the Alberta team rested its top players. Without Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman and Evan Bouchard, the Oilers suffered a 6-1 loss to the Jets, who had Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey and Neal Pionk in uniform.

Skinner allowed four goals on 27 shots in goal for the Oilers. Collin Delia stopped eight shots on 10 shots.

Defenseman Neal Pionk had a goal and three assists. Ehlers and Connor scored for Winnipeg. Also scoring for the Jets were Adam Lowry, Brad Lambert and Colin Miller.

Kaapo Kahkonen played the entire game in net for the Jets. The goalie made 26 saves. He only conceded late in the game to Connor Brown.

Chemistry develops between Bedard and Teravainen

Connor Bedard got to know his new teammate Teuvo Teravainen against the Detroit Red Wings.

If there is chemistry between the two players, many pundits will want to keep an eye on the former Carolina Hurricanes player. The two players teamed up on a goal in a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Midway through the second period, Bedard found Ville Husso Teravainen to the left and the forward pivoted to beat the goalie to make it 2-1 Hawks.

The Wings responded with three goals, including goals from Jeff Petry and Lucas Raymond. Olli Maatta completed the scoring with five minutes left in the game for Detroit.
