A promising new treatment for concussion and Alzheimer’s victims?

Rugby, handball, football, judo… concussions are a major problem in many sports. Dizziness, mood swings, depression and sometimes, down the road, dementia: their consequences are serious.

But there is now hope of treating them, in the form of a photobiomodulation helmet developed by the company RegenLife, in collaboration with neurologist Jean-François Chermann, a concussion specialist, and Philippe Malafosse, doctor at the rugby club.

Composed of 180 light modules combining laser and LED around infrared frequencies, it gave very encouraging initial results during a test conducted on 50 rugby players. The former captain of the French XV, Marie-Alice Yahé, and the international handball goalkeeper, Cléopâtre Darleux, also benefited from it – the latter owes her participation in the Games to it. A hope to be reinforced with broader clinical studies, the creators of the process hoping for marketing authorization by 2026.
