This Wednesday evening was the third round of the League Cup. Having beaten Bolton by a wide margin in the evening (5-1), Arsenal secured a place in the next round, just like their counterparts Liverpool. With a revamped team, the Mersey club beat West Ham, reduced to ten against eleven after Alvarez was sent off (5-1).

With one last ticket to be won, the draw for the round of 16 took place shortly after. On the programme, a 100% Premier League clash between Manchester City and Tottenham will be reserved for English football fans. For its part, Manchester United will cross swords with Leicester, another resident of the English first division, while Liverpool will be battling Brighton. Spared by the draw, Arsenal inherited Preston North End. Finally, Chelsea will face the winner of the duel between Newcastle and Wimbledon, scheduled for 1 October.
