With five riders within 10 seconds overall, the last stage promised to be lively and if Mathieu Van der Poel attempted a coup de force at the start of the day, the last twenty kilometres saw all the best riders or almost (Juan Ayuso, second overall, being surprisingly cautious) shoot each other down: in no particular order, Marc Hirschi, Mads Pedersen, Gaudu, Van der Poel, Mauri Vansevenant (who had lost his leader’s jersey the day before) but also Wilco Kelderman tried to go for the final victory by attacking on the last climb of the circuit or thanks to the bonuses.
