NHL: goaltender Ivan Fedotov returns to the Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers signed a two-year, $6.5 million deal with Russian goaltender Ivan Fedotov on Tuesday, TSN’s Darren Dreger reports.

The goalkeeper could have become a free agent without compensation this summer.

The 27-year-old made his NHL debut this season, posting a 4.95 goals-against average in three games.

Fedotov joined the Flyers in late March, shortly after his contract was terminated by CSKA Moscow (KHL), who had spent the season defying a decision by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

Fedotov spent the season with the Russian club, although the IIHF ruled in favor of the NHL and the Flyers in August that Fedotov’s contract would be terminated after he missed all of last season due to his call-up. military service in Russia. The decision, which was upheld on appeal in December, was supposed to void Fedotov’s contract with CSKA, with the KHL club also slapped with a one-year international transfer ban.

Fedotov was 21-22-1 with CSKA this season, posting a .914 save percentage and a 2.37 goals-against average. The Moscow club was eliminated from the KHL playoffs earlier this month, with Fedotov going 1-4 with a .916 save percentage and 2.57 goals-against average.

Fedotov was selected by the Flyers in the seventh round of the 2015 draft.

Before missing the entire 2022-23 season due to military service, Fedotov had spent the previous three campaigns as a starter in the KHL with the Chelyabinsk Traktor and CSKA.
