American Coco Gauff, world number 6, and her coach Brad Gilbert have ended their collaboration, they announced on their X account on Wednesday.
After a string of poor results, Cori Gauff has decided to end 14 months of collaboration with her coach Brad Gilbert. The decision of the 20-year-old champion comes after eliminations in the round of 16 at Wimbledon, the Paris Olympics, the WTA 1000 in Toronto and the US Open, and elimination in the first round at the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati.
“Thank you Brad, we had an incredible experience and I wish you the best for the future”announced on her X account Coco Gauff, whose poor summer results saw her slip from second place in the world in June to sixth today.
“Thank you to Coco Gauff and her entire team for this absolutely incredible summer 2023 (during which the player was crowned at the US Open) and for the incredible efforts made by the entire team for 14 months”for his part posted Brad Gilbert on his X account.
Before her very disappointing summer of 2024, Coco Gauff had managed in the first half of this year to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open and Roland-Garros, to rise to the rank of world No. 2 at the beginning of June.
Before becoming a coach, Brad Gilbert, 63, reached the quarter-finals of the 1987 US Open and Wimbledon in 1990, the year he reached his career-high ranking of fourth in the world.
