Lausanne-Sport hosted Lugano on Wednesday evening. A “catch-up” match that counted for the 5th day of the Super League. The Lausanne team lost 1-2.

A very cold evening at La Tuilière. In a stadium that would certainly have been more crowded if the match had not been moved to a Wednesday evening, LS suffered its fourth defeat of the season, the second at home.

The match never seemed to get going. On the Lausanne side, a few moves were started but were not completed. The Ticino team had several chances, particularly from corners, but Ludovic Magnin’s men were able to come to the aid of Karlo Letica to protect the goal.

And in the 39th minute, the stadium really took a chill. Ignacio Aliseda, from midfield, smashed the ball right into the penalty area. Except that when the ball landed, there was a Lugano player, Mattia Zanotti, and a Lausanne player, Morgan Poaty. It was the latter who was able to deflect the ball… unfortunately not in the right direction. The defender opened the scoring with an own goal. An advantage that Lugano would not lose until the final whistle.

The 3,462 spectators present really believed that Lausanne would get back into the game in the 63rd minute thanks to an excellent shot from Alvyn Sanches on the 16m line. A shot that was pushed back by the Ticino goalkeeper and that Kaly Sène was able to recover. But his final shot ended up over the goal.

The last hopes were buried a quarter of an hour later. Uran Bislimi did the job to “distract” the Lausanne players and put his team in a good position in front of the Vaud goalkeeper. He then let Yanis Cimignani and Ignacio Aliseda finish the job to score 0-2.

Fousseni Diabaté’s excellent strike in the 92nd minute, which pierced the defence and found its way into the back of the net, will not change the outcome of the match.

Few regrets

A few minutes after the end of the match, Noë Dussenne introduced himself to the journalists. The time taken by the team to greet the supporters in the kop was not long enough to hide the disappointment on the face of the Lausanne captain. Lucid, he knows how to directly point out what went wrong.

The defender mentioned these “boulevards” that they did not know how to exploit. But why can’t they do it? Noë Dussenne, in a hot analysis, blames ball recovery. Coach Ludovic Magnin confirms, in a little more detail.

Another point that posed a problem for Lausanne this Wednesday was the long balls.

In the stands, we thought we saw a team that perhaps didn’t want it enough, that didn’t try enough, that wasn’t in its game. Ludovic Magnin, for his part, accepted this defeat calmly. There was no disappointment from the Lausanne coach.

Currently, Lausanne is in 10th place in the general ranking. A defeat this weekend could see LS fall further. So, does Ludovic Magnin feel more pressure on his shoulders?

On Sunday afternoon, at home, is a victory against Yverdon therefore obligatory?

The Vaud derby will therefore be on Sunday at the Stade de la Tuilière. Kick-off at 2:15 p.m.
