The Champions League in Belgium is not only in Bruges this Wednesday evening, but also at the King Baudouin Stadium, where RSCA Women are in fact tackling the second preliminary round of the women’s version of the competition against the Norwegians of Valerenga.

The Mauves are now just one step away from the Champions League group stage.

A final step never taken to date, and which always leads to the traditional phase of four groups of four teams, before a new model in 2025.

A big first in sight for RSCA Women?

“Qualifying for the group stage would indeed be a great first,” confirms Red Flame Marie Minnaert, scorer in the previous round, in The Last Hour – Sports (https://tinyurl.com/3wsp8ves).

“It would mean a lot for the club but also for all of Belgian women’s football…”

This 2024-2025 edition is in any case already more successful since the Brussels women had failed in the previous round in past years.

This time, the club intends to not let the train go, but has once again come up against the Norwegian.

After Brann (0-3), it is in fact against Valerenga that the RSCA Women must play for their qualification.

Except that at this stage, the ticket will be played as a round trip.

Twenty-six places ahead of Anderlecht in the UEFA ranking

If the Mauves have avoided a big European tenor, Valerenga does not constitute an easy pitfall to avoid.

The club are Norwegian champions, and we know what that means in women’s football, and are dreaming of returning to the group stage after losing 1-2 and 0-3 to Real Madrid a year ago.

However, Dennis Moerman, Dave Mattheus’ successor at the helm of RSCA women, is determined to see this group stage.

That’s the goal anyway!

The Super League matches at Standard (last Saturday) and against Zulte Waregem this Saturday have also been postponed, in order to increase the chances of qualification.
