Last week, Dennis Praet signed a two-year contract with Antwerp. This Wednesday, the 30-year-old midfielder was presented to the press. He explained why he did not return to Anderlecht.

Discussions with Anderlecht

Jesper Fredberg recently explained that Praet was a good player, but that his profile was no longer needed after the arrival of Leander Dendoncker. The club also did not want to take the risk that Praet would slow down the progress of Verschaeren, Stroeykens or Théo Leoni.

This Wednesday, the Red Devil confirmed that there had indeed been discussions between him and the Brussels management: “It’s true that there were discussions, but Antwerp was more concrete. By joining Antwerp, I am joining a great team, a great city and great supporters. I don’t regret for a single second my choice to have this club.”

Returning to Belgium was not his first choice

Originally, the former Torino, Sampdoria and Leicester player wanted to continue his career abroad but he admitted that he had not received any interesting offers: “I always had the ambition to play in a big league. But I had to find the right project. I no longer wanted to play against relegation. Finally, I decided to come back to Belgium. I am 30 years old, with a family and two children, that played a role in my decision.”
