It was in the rain that the inauguration of the playing field took place on Saturday February 10, 2024, at the end of the morning. Foot5 at the stadium Charles-Davesne has Verneuil-sur-Avre (Eure). For your information, Foot5 is a lit field measuring 35 by 20 meters with synthetic turf, fences and nets.

After cutting the inaugural ribbon, elected officials and football officials met under a barn for the speeches.

80% subsidies

Deputy Mayor of Verneuil in charge of sports, Frédéric Rey recalled that it is thanks to the ANS, National Sports Agency, as well as the FFF, French Football Federation, that this pitch costing €86,000 excluding tax was able to see the light of day in Verneuil, these two structures having financed this 80% project: 50% the ANS and 30% the FFF through the Amateur Football Aid Fund, partly derived from professional football.

As for the reasons which pushed the City to acquire this land, they are simple: “after construction of three tennis courts at Goilard, the U7s and U9s found themselves deprived of the field and foot5 in Davesne was the alternative, which also made it possible to repatriate all Vernolian football to the same place,” explained the elected official.

It is a success

Another advantage, “when orders are issued to prohibit playing on waterlogged or muddy pitches, the Foot5 pitch allows the youngest to play anyway”.

Result, after installation last July, the Foot5 field is very successful. It is intended primarily for U7s, U9s and even U11s, both for matches and for training the youngest when other fields are impassable. Firefighters, schoolchildren and non-licensed people can also play it outside of club training.

Leisure practices

These fields, he explained, “in addition to allowing young licensees to play, aim to encourage new football practices, more oriented towards leisure, whether it is footnet (ball tennis), golf-football (send the ball in a hole), women’s football, as well as walking football, knowing that the FFF will create a license Healthy sport in 2025. Then Foot5 can also bring back alumni who could potentially be future volunteers in the clubs.”

Treasurer of the football league and vice-president of the district, Jean-Luc Giffard added that the objective of the FFF, “is 100 Foot5 pitches in Normandy, pitches over which the clubs keep control for their use, this is the wish of the federation”.

Regret from the president

In turn, Alain Roujollepresident of Vernolian football, was obviously delighted with this Foot5 field expanding the practice of football, even if he regrets the non-respect of certain users making noise in particular, like those heard on a Sunday morning playing at 6 a.m. …

As for Yves-Marie Rivemale, mayor and also a doctor, he expressed his satisfaction with this new equipment, believing that “sport is essential for health, especially since it is recommended today in the treatment of illnesses, such as is done at Interco with the Sport santé program. Equipment which, in his eyes, reinforces Verneuil as a sporting city which will welcome the Olympic flame Saturday July 6, 2024.
