Criticized for its prices, the DAZN platform launches a promotion on its Ligue 1 subscriptions

-

In order to counter criticism of the prices of its offers and the use of piracy by Ligue 1 fans, DAZN announced this Monday, September 9, 2024 that it will review its subscription formula. A temporary promotion will be launched from this Tuesday, September 10.

After long weeks of uncertainty, the Professional Football League decided to award the television broadcasting rights for Ligue 1 matches to DAZN at the beginning of July. The British streaming platform acquired eight championship matches per day for an average of €400 million per year. BeIN Sports, for its part, won the last match for €100 million per year.

DAZN subscription prices deemed exorbitant

DAZN then unveiled its offers to allow fans to follow the French Ligue 1 championship. But the British streaming platform decided to set its monthly subscription at 29.99 euros for a one-year commitment and 39.99 euros per month without commitment. Ligue 1 fans have spoken out to denounce exorbitant prices.

In order to get around them, many of them have rushed to illegal broadcasting methods. “Le Parisien” reported that at least 200,000 people watched Paris Saint-Germain’s first match against Le Havre via Telegram on Friday, August 16. Faced with criticism and losses caused by the use of piracy, DAZN has decided to review its copy. Its CEO announced a series of promotions on Monday, September 9.
