EL: Mute at Fenerbahçe, OL will have to wait for the Top 8

7th day of the Europa League:

Stade Sukru Saracoglu.

Fenerbahçe – Olympique Lyonnais: 0-0.

On the lawn of José Mourinho's Fenerbahçe, Olympique Lyonnais failed to find the fault (0-0). Les Gones will therefore have to wait to validate their place in the Top 8 of the Europa League.

Under pressure after a series of poor results on the national scene, the club wanted to do well in Turkey to validate their qualification for the round of 16 of the C3. Despite good intentions, OL had a complicated first period with the exit due to injury of Fofana (43rd) and Niakhaté's red card canceled by the VAR and transformed into a yellow for a manly but correct tackle against Kahveci (45th+9 ). With few chances, the two teams neutralized each other until the break.

After half-time, the Turks came back with more desire. Fenerbahçe even thought of opening the score before the hour mark, but En-Nesyri's goal was refused for a handball from the Moroccan striker (55th). The rest of the match was balanced, with Lyon trying to snatch victory, but without final success (0-0).

Thanks to this draw, Lyon temporarily moved up to third place in the regular season of the Europa League. Already qualified for the final phase, with a place assured for the play-offs at least, Lyon will have to wait until the last day to secure its direct ticket for the round of 16 of this C3, knowing that the Gones only have one point ahead of ninth. To ensure finishing in the Top 8, Pierre Sage's team will therefore have to beat Ludogorets next Thursday at Groupama Stadium on the final day of this Europa League.
