A former member of the Green House, Emmanuel Da Costa, is experiencing a grotesque situation in his new club Swift Hesperange. Former assistant to Laurent Batlles, the two men saw their paths separate after the dismissal of the pair for lack of results.
Emmanuel Da Costa, born September 3, 1977 in Rouen, is a French football coach. After an amateur playing career in France, he began a coaching career which led him to manage several French clubs, including FC Rouen, Quevilly-Rouen Métropole, SC Lyon and US Créteil. In June 2024, he was appointed head coach of FC Swift Hesperange, a Luxembourg football club playing in the BGL Ligue.
The situation is becoming worrying at Swift Hesperange. Despite the warning from UEFA, which deprived the club of any European competition this season by refusing to grant it the necessary license, the message clearly did not cause the expected shock. Since the summer, the problems have accumulated. The arrival of a new coach, unhappy with the pre-season preparation, the dismissal of Maurice Deville, an overloaded workforce, as well as questionable management of the first licenses, laid the foundations for an eventful season. If the beginnings on the field were rather promising, they struggle to hide the persistent unease behind the scenes.
A Swift Hesperange club in turmoil
This Sunday, Manu Da Costa's players even went on strike, losing the match on the green carpet. A situation which particularly marked the coach. The players are protesting against unpaid salaries and numerous disagreements with the club's management.
-According to information from local media virgule.lu, the former member of the Green House even wanted to resign, but refused by his management: “A first clue had already aroused suspicion at the end of last week when the FLF announced the withdrawal of the reserve team which was to meet Union Titus Pétange on Friday. One more, some would say, because the tensions are not new and the coach, Manuel da Costa, resigned after the victory against Fola but the club's staff was opposed to his departure.
A person close to the case even concludes by adding: “With what happens in the locker room every training day, we could easily make a Netflix series.” Ambiance, ambiance…
