Last minute change of referees for Monaco-Aston Villa – C1 – J7 – Monaco-Aston Villa

Monegasques reassured.

A somewhat stormy reunion was planned for this Tuesday at the Louis-II stadium. For the Monaco-Aston Villa match, UEFA assigned Mr. Alen Borosak to video assistance and Mr. Rade Obrenovic as fourth referee. These two officials had already officiated during a Monaco match in the Champions League against Benfica Lisbon, which caused great controversy.

Indeed, Rade Obrenovic, main referee of this meeting, had been the subject of many reviews. The number of cards distributed, both against the players and the Monegasque coach, had sparked controversy.

A last minute change

This Monday, UEFA replaced Rade Obrenovic with Matej Jug, to the great relief of Monaco supporters. A change which has not been officially justified, but the influence of the Monegasque management in this choice is possible, the latter having expressed its intention to file a formal complaint after the match.
