The winter transfer window is in full swing and ASSE is multiplying avenues to densify its midfield, a sector where needs are dire. Despite the efforts of the recruitment unit, no reinforcements have yet been recorded. However, the delicate situation of Baptiste Santamaria in Rennes could change the situation for the Greens.
An arduous quest for reinforcements
For several weeks, Saint-Etienne leaders have been actively prospecting to strengthen a limited staffwith the aim of maintaining their place in Ligue 1. Several names were mentioned, such as Timothy Ouma who finally opted for Slavia Prague, or even Loreintz Rosier for whom no concrete steps have been initiated according to information from Green People. The search for profiles capable of densifying the midfield therefore continues.
The situation of Baptiste Santamaria
Among the trails explored, the one leading to Baptiste Santamaria, 29, has caused a lot of ink to flow. The former Angevin is going through a complicated period at Stade Rennais where, under Jorge Sampaoli, the defensive midfielder no longer enters into the plans. Rennes, wishing to reduce its payroll estimated at €180,000 per month for the player, is actively seeking an exit door. According to Le Parisien, Santamaria would even have been placed in the Rennes loft, alongside other undesirables, excluded from the professional group.
An opportunity to seize?
ASSE's interest in Santamaria was reported at the start of the transfer window, but the player then seemed to favor other projects. However, his sidelining could reshuffle the cards. If Rennes decided to facilitate his departure, in particular via a loan or partial payment of his salary, this could give new impetus to this issue and represent a opportunity to seize for the Greens in their quest for reinforcements in the middle.
