It is common for coaches working in Africa to not receive their salaries on a regular basis. In Burkina Faso, all those in post are still waiting for their money, according to information fromAfrik-Foot.
The Burkina Faso is qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, but Brama Traoré, appointed last April, has still not received his monthly salary of 10,000 euros. Like the other members of his technical staff, the technician must be content to collect match bonuses and mission expenses. The Stallions A coach is not, however, an isolated case, since this situation concerns all the other coaches in all categories.
Thus, Issa Balboné, who will lead the premises during the next African Nations Championship (CHAN), postponed to August in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya is subject to the same dry regime. The same goes for Omar Barro (under 17 and under 20) and the five coaches from the five zones for the under 15s (Aboubacar Kébé, Herman Yaméogo, Ousmane Ouédraogo and Drissa Compaoré).
Hubert Velud got his money
Among the women, Pascal Sawadogo (A and under 23) and Ousmane Coulibaly, in charge of under 15, 17 and 20, have not received a salary since 1is January 2024. All members of the technical staff are also affected.
-« They receive match bonuses and mission fees, provided their teams play matches. This allows its technicians to receive at least something from the State, since it is the State which pays all the salaries. Fortunately, they also hold jobs in the public service, so they are not without income. », Explains a source close to the Burkinabé Football Federation (FBF).
At least last November, FIFA had also ordered the instance to be settled in French Hubert Velud (April 2022-March 2024) the last five months of salary due, i.e. a total of 75,000 euros, as well as bonuses and damages. The head of state Ibrahim Traoré had given, a few days after the FIFA verdict, instructions for Velud to receive his money. His deputies – local and French – would also have received their salary arrears.
« We must hope that this will resolve the situation for those who are in office and who have been waiting for their money for many months », breathes this same source.
