As before each AS Saint-Étienne meeting, we are interested in the history between the Greens and their opponent of the weekend, FC Nantes.
Nantais and Stéphanois were, for a time, the two biggest clubs in French football, and the rivalry between them has remained historic. The new Saint-Etienne coach, Eirik Horneland announced his intention to create a style of play “à la Stéphanoise”, he should not ignore that for a very long time, it was the so-called “à la Nantaise” style of play which was the reference in France. If in the championship, ASSE is having great difficulty collecting three points in Nantes with six victories in forty-seven matches, the representatives of the capital of lily of the valley have not always been celebrating in the Chaudron. The results are however a little less severe for them, they have won eleven times in Forez. PSG is the only visiting club to have caused more problems for the Greens on their lawn.
History in Ligue 1 at Geoffroy-Guichard:
Stéphanois and Nantais will play their 106th confrontation this Sunday. Each club won (at the opponent's) one of the two matches played in D2. Advantage to the Greens in the Coupe de France with five victories for three defeats and a draw, oppositions which resulted in three qualifications for Saint-Etienne and two for Nantes. Of course, no one has forgotten the historic final played in 1970 in Colombes and the spanking (5-0) inflicted on the Canaries, who have still not digested it since.
History in all competitions and all stadiums:
-
It was in November 2019 that ASSE made FC Nantes bite the dust for the last time. It was at La Beaujoire. Victory for Claude Puel's men thanks to a goal from Trauco and two from Bouanga (3-2). Since then, no success during the six meetings that followed. Four draws and two defeats suffered, both in the Cauldron. The last two confrontations took place in Nantes and ended in two draws.
