Mercato: Change for Baptiste Santamaria

While the winter transfer window is in full swing, ASSE has still not recorded any reinforcements despite glaring needs, particularly in midfield. Saint-Etienne leaders, looking for profiles capable of densifying the midfield, are multiplying avenues, but none have yet come to fruition. One of the Greens' potential targets, Baptiste Santamaria, however, is experiencing a delicate situation in which could change the situation.

A recruitment unit on the lookout

For several weeks, ASSE has been actively prospecting to strengthen a limited squad, with a view to maintaining its place in Ligue 1. Several names have been associated with the club:
• Timothy Ouma, a promising 20-year-old midfielder, seemed to be a serious prospect. However, the player ultimately opted for Slavia Prague.
• The Frenchman Loreintz Rosier was also mentioned in the press. But according to our information, no concrete action has been initiated by the Saint-Etienne leaders on this subject.

The Baptiste Santamaria case

Among the avenues explored by ASSE, the one leading to Baptiste Santamaria has caused a lot of ink to flow. The former Angevin, now 29 years old, is going through a complicated period at Stade Rennais. Under Jorge Sampaoli, the defensive midfielder no longer enters into the plans and finds himself in an impasse. Rennes, wishing to reduce its payroll – estimated at €180,000 per month for the player – is actively looking for a way out.

According to Le Parisien, Santamaria would have been placed in the “Rennes loft”, alongside other undesirable players like Jota and Gautier Gallon. Excluded from the professional group, his situation becomes more and more critical.

An opportunity for ASSE?

ASSE's interest in Baptiste Santamaria was reported at the start of the transfer window, but the player seemed to favor other projects. However, his sidelining could reshuffle the cards. If Rennes decided to facilitate his departure, in particular via a loan or partial payment of his salary. What gives momentum to this issue?
