Tuesday evening, during the 16th final of the Coupe de France between OM and LOSC, a violent fight broke out at the bottom of the South Bend of the Vélodrome stadium, disrupting the second half. And according to La Provence, the tension was born from an incident between two emblematic groups of Marseille supporters: the South Winners 87 and the Commando Ultra '84. A member of the Winners allegedly threw a firecracker in the direction of a member of the Commando, provoking an outbreak of violence.
A firecracker throw at the center of tensions
The situation quickly degenerated. Witnesses speak of the use of dangerous objects such as crutches and knives. The scuffles lasted around twenty minutes, requiring the urgent intervention of stewards, supported by reinforcements from other stands. The police were also mobilized to bring the situation under control, while tensions spread among spectators.
Although calm returned after many minutes, no troublemaker was arrested, although the incident left its mark: a steward was reportedly injured during the intervention. To date, neither the club nor the fan groups concerned have communicated about this event. These clashes raise many questions, particularly about security in the stands and the relationship between these two historic groups.
