Vegetation instead of concrete. In the city center of Châtillon, a piece of land that has been fallow since 2017 will be transformed into a square as part of the redevelopment of rue Gabriel-Péri, between now and next June. This 450 m² surface area is located at the end of the street, at the intersection with Boulevard de la Liberté. It was initially supposed to accommodate a building of 15 social housing units, planned by the former municipality (LR) of Jean-Pierre Schosteck.
The land had been purchased for this purpose by the lessor Hauts-de-Seine Habitat. However, the town planning rules in the sector had to be modified. The opposition at the time voted against, the majority having already fractured around other real estate projects. A subject of tension in Châtillon during the time of the former mayor, regularly accused of complacency towards developers. He is still under investigation as part of an open judicial investigation, particularly for corruption, embezzlement of public funds and favoritism.
The building project was therefore abandoned. By taking over the municipality in 2020, Nadège Azzaz (PS) wanted to put the brakes on “anarchic construction”. Its municipality finally bought the plot of rue Gabriel-Péri located opposite the tram for a little more than 1.8 million euros.
“If from the start, this land had been planned for revegetation, it would have cost less,” criticizes Nadège Azzaz’s entourage. It will be much prettier than a building and it will give a beautiful perspective on the future rue Gabriel-Péri currently being developed. »
Work on this street started last June and is due to be completed early next summer. They plan to widen sidewalks, reduce vehicle speeds and reduce heat islands through more vegetation.
