Luis Enrique showed off some progress in French this Tuesday at a press conference, on the eve of the round of 16 of the Coupe de France against Espaly (N3), Wednesday in Clermont. He began it with his traditional “hello everyone” and concluded it with a promise to one day speak in the language of Molière to the press. “Before the ten years (spent on the Parisian bench, Editor’s note), I will do it in French, my rhythm is good,” he smiled.

It could therefore take a little time since the Spanish coach only signed in Paris in July 2023. But Luis Enrique played it a bit modest in front of the media since he had shown a certain ease in French a few moments earlier in answering questions from the club's channel, PSGTV. “The Cup is a competition that we really like, it brings back very good memories and it is very good to play against opponents from other levels,” he said very clearly and without hesitation. “The team is in a good moment, we have to continue with the same mentality of playing every match as if it were a final.”

The former Spain coach has regularly shown his wish to speak in the language of his adopted country when he masters it perfectly so as not to betray his point of view through a lack of vocabulary. By setting the milestone of ten years, he made fun of a previous question referring to his wishes for longevity on the Parisian bench. “I don’t know how long this process will last, do you know how many years I will stay at PSG?”, he told the journalist who replied: “10 years”

“I hope,” he replied, “but the reality is that it is difficult to be at a top club for so many years,” he clarified. “In my previous clubs (AS Roma, Barça), I didn't stay more than four years, I needed to recharge my batteries because Luis Enrique's energy was running out,” he recalls. “Here, it's a totally different project, I feel very good here, very comfortable. It would be great if it was 10 years, that would mean that everyone is happy but that's not a concern for me I try to live in the moment, try to develop the squad with players for whom I plan very far. I would like to be able to develop this project but I am not an innocent novice, you have to be. thoroughly in all competitions to last several years and that wears out everyone, the club, the supporters I don't know at what point I'm at, the most important thing is that I currently have this energy to imagine this as a possibility.
