The last match between Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille was marked, like many other matches, by controversial refereeing decisions. Enough to make Johan Micoud react who does not understand the choices of the man with the whistle.
The match between Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille (1-2) had all the makings of a spectacular display. The match scenario kept all its promises. Three goals, interesting actions and, above all, refereeing decisions which left the spectators and observers of the match buzzing. At the whistle during this cold evening in Brittany, Mr. Kherradji was contradicted each time by the VAR, in delicate decisions. In any case, this is what Johan Micoud indicates, who fuels the controversy around the referee in a post published on his X account.
Johan Micoud pays himself as the referee
« So, in the same match, two insignificant hands: on one side, we give a penalty and on the other, we cancel a penalty. In my opinion, in the spirit of the game, I don’t whistle any », released the former Bordeaux glory on X. The ex-playmaker turned consultant refers to two apparently similar situations which were judged in two different ways. First, the evening referee awarded a penalty to Rennes after a hand whistle against Amir Murillo, who was unable to control his gesture since the ball fell on him. Second contentious situation: Hojbjerg takes a free kick which crashes into the wall. An arm pushes the shot away and the referee whistles a penalty… then changes his mind after video analysis.
Double standards for observers of the match who still do not understand how such decisions could have been taken by the referee of the evening. This meeting will once again not help the refereeing body to gain the respect of supporters who get annoyed week after week to see contentious decisions which do not help the show. And will not help the Marseillais who have shouted conspiracy against their club on social networks. It remains to be seen who is behind this anti-OM plot already denounced by Mehdi Benatia.
