a sterile domination and a realism at half mast – the tops and flops

Controlling possession but hampered by a lack of offensive realism, LOSC had to settle for a frustrating draw against (0-0). Discover our tops and flops after this match counting for the 17th day of Ligue 1.

The best

A match controlled by dominant

From the start of the match, LOSC was able to get their foot on the ball by literally confiscating possession from Auxerre thanks to a technically impressive trio of Benjamin André, André Gomes and Ayyoub Bouaddi. Perfectly squared by Mastiffs concentrated defensively, the AJA attackers struggled to exist. The few infiltrations by Gaëtan Perrin on the counterattack were the result of exceptions, but Lucas Chevalier prevented the locals from opening the score (25′, 72′). Finishing with 70% possession at the end of the match, Lille were less impressive offensively.

The flops

Wings lacking speed

With the absences of Edon Zhegrova, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and the benching of Osame Sahraoui, LOSC sorely lacked speed on the sides to accelerate the game and shake up this Auxerre defense. The performances of Rémy Cabella, uncomfortable on his right side, and of Hakon Haraldsson, moving into the center, are the perfect example: the use of the lanes will not have been the preferred system. The full-backs also will not have helped on the Mastiff side with Ismaily who had difficulty finding the Icelandic and Aïssa Mandi who was far too defensive.

A blatant lack of realism

Despite its thirteen shots, five of which were on target, LOSC was unable to open the scoring on the Abbé-Deschamps pitch. A blatant lack of realism which has dogged this ambitious club since the start of the season. While we thought that David was going to break the deadlock in the 59th minute, his penalty was saved by a great Theo De Percin. The French goalkeeper will shine again in the 64th minute by winning his duel against Hakon Haraldsson. Despite a slight lack of creativity and sometimes sterile possession of the ball, the Mastiffs had chances but came up against the defensive spirit of a concentrated Auxerre team.
