The winter transfer window at Stade Rennais is particularly hectic this season. While the Breton club made some interesting moves with the arrivals of Fofana School et Brice Sambathe departures are just as lively, especially in the offensive sector. Amine Gouiri arouses the interest of Galatasaray who sent an offer of €13 million (+ bonuses), while Henrik Meister, recruited last summer for €7 million, will be loaned with an option to buy to Pisa in Italy.
Jota’s failure in Rennes
But the most emblematic case of this turbulent transfer window is undoubtedly that of Whom. Arriving last September for €8 million from Al-Ittihad, the 25-year-old Portuguese has never managed to win at Stade Rennais. After a period of physical fitness, he was quickly hampered by injury. The change of coach with the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli did not work in his favor either. Under the Argentinian’s orders, Jota never started and only played 77 minutes in six matches, or less than 20 minutes per match on average.
-A disappointing transfer
Despite a purchase price which might seem interesting, Jota’s record in Rennes is very disappointing. According to Ouest France, the Portuguese should leave the club this winter to bounce back in an unspecified foreign team. The transplant never took between the player and the SRFC, and this summer transfer now appears to be a bitter failure for the Bretons. Jota ultimately never managed to establish himself in the Rennes squad, despite the hopes placed in him during his recruitment.
A turbulent transfer window
This announced departure of Jota is part of a particularly lively winter transfer window for Stade Rennais. In addition to the Gouiri and Meister files, the Breton club also seems to be interested in Denis BouangaLos Angeles FC player. So many movements which demonstrate Jorge Sampaoli’s desire to reshape his squad for the second half of the season.
