Once mentioned in the sights of PSG this winter, Abdukodir Khusanov is finally heading towards Manchester City and will not meet the Parisian club again anytime soon.
In search of a right-handed central defender this winter, PSG is targeting a young but already experienced player, according to the French press. A player as intense in duels according to L’Equipe, but comfortable enough with the ball to fit the Luis Enrique mold. The track leading to Bournemouth’s Ukrainian international, lya Chosen (22 years old), has been explored, but is no longer relevant.
PSG has appreciated Tomas since last summer Araujo (22 years old), but the latter has just extended his contract with Benfica and his departure will not take place in January. Author of a great first part of the season in Lens, the young Uzbek international Abdukodir Khusanov (20 years old) was also associated with PSG, a rumor reinforced by the fact that Jorge Mendes was mandated by Lens to find him a new club.
But according to the latest reports from various journalists specializing in the transfer window and reputed to be reliable, Khusanov is heading to Manchester City, who would have reached an agreement with the Sang et Or for a transfer of around 50 million euros, bonus included. A real jackpot for Lens, who recruited the player a year and a half ago for only 100,000 euros.
Close to City, Khusanov will not cross paths with PSG again in January
According to Fabrizio Romano, Pep Guardiola has validated this file and the Lens defender has already agreed with Lens for a contract until 2030 according to FootMercato. Well underway, this transfer is not without consequences for PSG, whose real interest in the player this winter remains to be proven.
-One thing is certain, PSG will face Lens without one of its best defenders on January 18 in Ligue 1, and we will have to see if this transfer of Khusanov puts an end to the possible departure of Kevin Danso, also very popular this winter. Khusanov, if he signs for City, will not play against PSG on January 22 in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes, where he was sent off on November 2 after a nasty foul on Achraf Hakimi.
UEFA does not authorize any modification of the lists before the end of the championship phase of the Champions League and Manchester City will not be able to field recruits at the Parc des Princes against PSG. Likewise, if PSG manages to complete the signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the coming days, they will not be able to field the Georgian against City and Stuttgart.
Potential PSG recruits this winter, however, will be able to play straight away in Ligue 1 and be registered for the Champions League play-offs, provided of course that they gain access.
