In an interview with AS, David Villa, the former FC Barcelona striker, expresses his admiration for Kylian Mbappé. The former Spanish striker, 2010 world champion, believes that Real Madrid are lucky to be able to rely on the captain of the France team.
David Villa has put away his crampons since February 2020 and one last experience in Japan under the colors of Vissel Kobe. But the former Spanish striker, now 43 years old, continues to closely follow football news. In an interview with AS, the 2010 world champion, who played for FC Barcelona for three seasons (2010-2013), gives his feelings on Kylian Mbappé's debut at Real Madrid. And the former La Roja striker (98 caps, 59 goals), who played for Valencia or Atlético de Madrid, does not hide his admiration for the captain of the France team. After a contrasting baptism, the top scorer in PSG history seems to be gaining momentum with Casa Blanca.
“I think he is still in the process of adaptation which is necessary. He has experienced a change of team, championship, country, everything,” recalls David Villa. “Mbappé is not the same kind of striker that I was. He has a lot more qualities than me, but it's not easy to say to yourself that you have to score four goals per match. He still has scored a good number of goals I'm not the one who talks most readily about Real Madrid, but it's great news for Madrid and La Liga to have Mbappé.
A rise in power after a contrasting baptism
Since his arrival last summer, after the end of his contract in Paris, Kylian Mbappé has scored 13 goals and delivered 3 assists in 24 matches (all competitions combined). Often aligned as a center forward by Carlo Ancelotti, the 2018 world champion had a contrasting start to the season, before gaining momentum over the weeks. He has scored four goals in his last six appearances in La Liga, even if he remained silent during the victory at Valencia last Friday (1-2).
Real are currently leading their championship, 2 points ahead of Barça and a game in hand. Mbappé and his partners are traveling this Monday (7 p.m.) to Deportiva Minera, a fourth division club located in the region of Murcia, in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.
