After the ingenious idea of the gardeners in Portuguese D2, another second division was in the spotlight this weekend: our beloved Ligue 2. And it was Grenoble which was able to pay it the most beautiful tribute.
Grenoble has a wonderful start to the new year
This weekend, Ligue 2 offered us a gut-wrenching shock between Grenoble (11th) and Bastia (10th). If the Isérois open the scoring, the Corsicans equalize after half an hour of play. Then arrives this 72nd minute. On a free kick from 40 meters, Grenoble goalkeeper Mamadou Diop comes out of his cage to clear the danger. Well, in theory. Despite his imposing size (2.04m), the goalkeeper sits admirably well, and lets a Bastiais put his head right in front of him. As a result, the ball heads towards the goals, but fortunately for GF 38, captain Gaëtan Paquiez is keeping an eye on things.
The latter sends a potato to (finally) ward off the danger. The gesture is heroic, except that his teammate Mamadou Diarra has exactly the same idea. Of two possible rescues, Grenoble goes to zero. Pacquiez catapults the ball towards Diarra, to offer us a beautiful CSC. When it doesn't want, it doesn't want.
Despite this double feat, the Grenoblois spoiled everything and won 3-2 after added time. A nameless waste.
