The Roman derby between AS Roma and Lazio on Sunday evening was marked by an unexpected clash between two French internationals, Manu Koné and Mattéo Guendouzi. Both midfielders started in this match which ended in a 2-0 victory for Roma.

Guendouzi grabbed Koné by the collar

In the 79th minute, the intensity of the match reached a critical point when Manu Koné tackled Mattéo Guendouzi hard. Displeased, the former Marseillais responded by grabbing his compatriot by the collar, causing a tense face-off lasting several seconds. Despite the altercation, no cards were distributed, but the episode clearly illustrates the tensions that reigned on the ground. The meeting ended in an even more electric atmosphere with a general fight.

This animosity between teammates in the French team could resurface during their next meeting at Clairefontaine in March, during the quarter-finals of the Nations League against Croatia. Yet in competition, Koné and Guendouzi both impressed during the last autumn gathering, notably during the victory against Italy (3-1).
