When the Greens go super

Slapped by in the wake of a diabolical Hatem Ben Arfa (1-4) and by a PSG in another dimension (4-1), the Greens had to react at the expense of Champenois not very sparkling offensively, remaining on only one goal scored in their last five outings. Fifth, the Stéphanois, although deprived of the services of the suspended Fabien Lemoine but on the other hand recording the return of Renaud Cohade after long months of absence, were aiming for a podium on which reigned, oh surprise, in addition to the club from the capital… the SCO of and the Stade Malherbe of ! At the same time, it was important to preserve the organisms and keep fuel in reserve before the reception of Dnipro, finalist of the Europa League during the previous season. A challenge that Christophe Galtier's men were able to meet despite a sluggish start, in diesel mode. “We were slow to get into this match. However, we never doubted. The coach, during the break, encouraged us to persevere. We had the right positions but not necessarily the right ball routes. We have rectified the situation. We had to play behind their backs“, confided Vincent Pajot, afterwards, in the columns of “La Tribune”.

3-0: the rate of the week

The second half saw the Greens working at full speed. A move upmarket which got the better of Champenois in the end heavily defeated (3-0): Robert Beric, with a furious tackle, opened the ball before Prince Oniangué scored the goal of the break with a model of self- goal and that Valentin Eysseric takes advantage of a delicious “exter” from Nolan Roux to deceive the vigilance of a Johny Placide angered by the apathy of his defense. ASSE, tied for second, could project itself on Dnipro because it is “Europe that writes legends”, as the Saint-Etienne press conveniently recalled. A match won, again, three days later, with a clear score of 3-0 thanks to achievements by Kévin Monnet-Paquet, Robert Beric and Romain Hamouma.
