OL tree: Molebe, Mounsesse… These nuggets that we want to see come out of the nursery (4/5)

It's Christmas and the butfootballclub.fr editorial team is doing the traditional end-of-year review through the prism of the tree. Fourth part OL on training… where we seek to know if the Academy can take its “little Jesus” out of its crèche in 2025.

Although victorious in the Gambardella Cup in 2022, Olympique Lyonnais is really suffering in terms of its training. Whether it is the reserve in National 3, the U19 team or the U17s, the Gones appear in all competitions in a soft stomach, beaten two times out of three in their derbies against ASSE (which would not have been tolerated among educators in other times…). If it is an open secret that OL must deal with, since the migration of the training center to and the departure of many historic educators with a big generational gap, the “nursery” can still offer us some nice surprises. short and medium term.

Molebe digests, Lega shunned?

The safest hope is obviously Enzo Molebe (17 years old, born in 2007) whom Pierre Sage sees “jumping a grade” after his summer in contact with the pros and who also made his debut in the Europa League against Qarabag (8 minutes played). The person concerned, however, suffers the downside of being OL's No. 3 scorer behind Lacazette and Mikautadze (but ahead of Orban) since he plays little in youth . Only 400 minutes between the National 3 and the U19s for an assist and a penalty caused. It's not much for an attacker even if Pierre Sage seems to rely more on him than on Sekou Lega (21 years old), the very effective center forward of the reserve (10 goals and 1 assist in half a season). The fact remains that Lega has, to its credit, a failed loan in Ligue 2 to (7 appearances) which blocked its prospects.

Gomes Rodriguez and Tambadou adapt, Mounsesse and Barisic arrive

In the middle and up front, OL must still take their time for Venezuelan crack Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez, who arrived this summer from England and is still in the adaptation phase (3 goals, 1 assist between the N3 and the U19s) or with Francis Gomez Tambadou, freshly loaned from Everton. Even if he still has a step to climb before reaching the professional group, we will also have to carefully follow the emergence of Daryll Benlahlou (18 years old), who is a hit with the U19s (8 goals in 10 appearances).

Among the other elements of the nursery, at the defensive level, two central players can be interesting. Winner of the Gambardella Cup alongside Mamadou Sarr, Jérémy Mounsesse (19 years old) has already made an appearance in the pro group at the start of the season and seems the most ready to make his mark even if, sportingly, he is the captain of the Téo Barisic reserve who shows the most at the start of the season.

El Djebali is a waste!

On the other hand, some very promising former figures have faded away on their own because of their behavior. This is particularly the case of Florent Sanchez, never really recovered from his mixed loan at Molenbeek (when the current loanees in Belgium are taking a step forward) and who was ejected towards US Orléans (N1)… And by Chaïm El Djebali, yet close to the pro group during the summer and author of a thunderous start to the season in N3 (4 goals in his first two matches). The Franco-Tunisian should soon leave the club and it is a shame given his potential.
