The Stéphanois hosted Olympique de Marseille this Sunday evening for the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. ASSE, led by Laurent Huard, was only able to endure during the 90 minutes of play. A former Saint-Etienne player, now an Olympian, did not hesitate to criticize his former club after the match.
A quick visit to ASSE
A native of the Paris region, Neal Maupay signed for ASSE in August 2015 from his training club (OGC Nice, 53 matches). Then aged 19, the striker arrived in the Forez during a turbulent transfer window in the Forez, with the signings of Vincent Pajot, Kévin Théophile-Catherine, and Nolan Roux.
But after around fifteen matches played in Ligue 1, the Stéphanois was loaned to Stade Brestois in 2016, then a resident of Ligue 2. A particularly prolific experience, in which the striker scored 11 goals and delivered an assist. In the process, ASSE then sold its player to England, to Brentford (Championship).
Neal Maupay will only have played 23 matches in all competitions under the green tunic. Since then, the former Stéphanois has found his place across the Channel. Transferred to Brighton in August 2019 for the sum of 15 million euros, the striker established himself with the Seagulls with nearly 109 contests played for 27 goals scored. Everton smelled the right move in August 2022, then loaned him consecutively to Brentford (2023-2024) then to Marseille with an obligation to purchase (2024-2025).
Maupay room are old club
Renowned for his appetite for roommates, Neal Maupay did not change his old habits this Sunday against his former club.
Olympique de Marseille was indeed traveling to Geoffroy-Guichard this Sunday to play the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. But quickly diminished, ASSE conceded four goals at home without really managing to worry Roberto De Zerbi's players.
“I don't like Geoffroy-Guichard, and his lousy team. Let them languish in Ligue 2, those lousy people.” The music of Julien Cazarre certainly makes us smile while listening to it. But, starting at the forefront of the attack this Sunday, Neal Maupay appeared with the comedian's composition in an Instagram story.
