Mercato: Ivan Gazidis intends to support his strategy

Bought since June 2024 by the Canadian group Kilmer Sports Ventures, ASSE has begun a new era marked by its return to Ligue 1. However, this return among the elite is proving complicated for the Stéphanois. Despite 23 million euros invested, the Greens’ workforce was not able to convince. If certain players have shown signs of progress in recent months, the team still seems far from having the level necessary to establish itself sustainably in Ligue 1.

In recent weeks, ASSE has suffered several humiliations on the pitch, results which ultimately cost Olivier Dall’Oglio his place.

While a change of course could have been considered in the face of these poor performances, this will not be the case. On the contrary, Ivan Gazidis and his management team wish to continue the strategy put in place, as confirmed The Dauphiné Libéré.

“Ivan Gazidis, president of ASSE, would criticize the form more. Because the objective given by the management is multiple: maintain the club while developing the players and giving a playing identity to the team. Despite a first part season which looks like a warning, the club does not intend to change course “Maintenance must go through the development of the workforce”, they explain to us internally.

ASSE – A market to support?

The leaders of ASSE do not intend to change their tune this winter. This is confirmed by the same source. “An experienced player cannot be ruled out but it would not be the priority option. The coach does not necessarily have to know Ligue 1 but rather respond to the three axes mentioned above. Wilfried , coach who led the Columbus Crew in the MLS title in the United States, will it be this one? Nothing is sure because the Ohio club will not easily let go of its coach under contract until December 2026.”

Either way, the next few weeks will be particularly interesting to follow. Kilmer Sports will make its first real organizational decision. The choice of coach will be a first turning point for the new era of ASSE. Hoping that this one will be crowned with success with maintenance at stake.
