After the ouster of Olivier Dall'Oglio by the leaders of ASSE, which coach could succeed him?
This Saturday, AS Saint-Étienne formalized the dismissal of Olivier Dall'Oglio, the day after the defeat against TFC (2-1). Quite surprising timing, given that the Greens will have one last match to play before the end of the year, next Sunday against OM in the Coupe de France. But the decision has been made, and the club will have to work on the identity of the next coach, a choice which raises many questions.
As a reminder, the official press release published this Saturday specifies that it is Laurent Huard, Director of the Training Center, who will take over the interim role. Which suggests that Kilmer has not yet made his choice for Dall'Oglio's definitive successor. Here are the possible options regarding the identity of the future Saint-Etienne coach.
Wilfried Nancy, Kilmer's favorite?
The name of Wilfried Nancy, former coach of CF Montreal and MLS champion with Columbus Crew in 2023, comes up insistently. Polyglot, he perfectly matches one of the essential criteria for Kilmer, who wants a coach capable of expressing himself in several languages to embody the ASSE project. However, Nancy's arrival remains uncertain. The technician would be coveted by several English clubs and remains attached to Columbus, where he left his mark. Added to this is another big difficulty: the salary which could constitute a brake for ASSE.
Philippe Montanier, a familiar profile for Soucasse
If Kilmer were to delegate the choice of coach to his Soucasse-Perrin-Rustem triumvirate, another path could lead to Philippe Montanier. The former Toulouse coach has already worked with Soucasse at the Violets. In addition, Montanier knows ASSE well, having played a few matches there between 1999 and 2000. Free since his departure from TFC in 2023, the former coach of RC Lens is also a regular in the Ligue 1 championship, with 211 matches coached in the elite.
Habib Beye, yes but…
On the market since his departure from Red Star, Habib Beye also appears as a potential candidate. A former Newcastle defender, Beye is also multilingual and benefits from the image of a fairly young and therefore modern coach. However, his attachment to Olympique de Marseille, where he played between 2003 and 2007, could make supporters cringe, and Kilmer knows that he must score points after a summer transfer window which did not bring its fruits.
Zoumana Camara, the unexpected joker
Another name, perhaps more surprising, could emerge: that of Zoumana Camara. The former assistant to Carlo Ancelotti, Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel at PSG is currently without a club since his departure from the Parisian club's U19s, with whom he won the championship a few months ago. With a prestigious business card and a mastery of five languages, Camara ticks many boxes for Kilmer, who was trained in Forez, with 152 matches played in the Saint-Etienne jersey, where he left only good memories.
One thing is certain: ASSE, current play-off in Ligue 1, must make no mistake regarding the identity of its next coach.
