Lucas Perri is the first player with OL (@OL / Lyubomir Domozetski)
Between January and May 2024, Lucas Perri had to wait in the shoes of an understudy. Before becoming a starter at OL, the Brazilian goalkeeper had a few months to adapt.
In one sense, it seems that the transition went better than the other. If Anthony Lopes must be content with training sessions now at OL, Lucas Perri has become the number 1 goalkeeper, rather successfully so far. It is often difficult to take over from a boy who has brought so much to the club, marking his name quite certainly in history, even without winning a trophy. However, the Brazilian is making a good impression for the moment, despite some approximations at times.
Before finding himself in the starting suit, the former Botafogo footballer still had to go through a period of acclimatization to his new environment. First on the bench upon his arrival in January 2024, he appeared in the Coupe de France from February. Decisive in the team's excellent run until the final, he will remain for example as the hero of the quarter-final won on penalties against Strasbourg (0-0, 4-3 tab).
“I had to familiarize myself with my surroundings“
During an interview given to Free FootPerri spoke about his first steps in the Rhône. “In the 2023 financial year, I went to the national team. I had a very good season. John Weaver spoke with me and my agent. What he had as a plan for me was to bring me to Lyon, and, during the first six months, the only thing he expected of me was adaptation. Learn the language, and then I will fight for a place in the goals, clarified the 27-year-old doorman. It was therefore clear to me that during the first semester, I had to familiarize myself with my environment, and in particular the cold. This is something very difficult for us (laughs).”
