Jorge Sampaoli seals Steve Mandanda's future

Since his arrival at Stade Rennais in 2022 after his surprise departure from Olympique de , Steve Mandanda has been a pillar of the Breton cages. However, this season, the role of the French international goalkeeper seems weakened, with rumors of a potential replacement by Walter Benitez. Faced with these speculations, coach Jorge Sampaoli spoke to put an end to doubts regarding the future of his player.

Clear and assertive support

At a press conference, Jorge Sampaoli expressed his complete confidence in Steve Mandanda, despite the lackluster collective performances of Stade Rennais. “For me, Steve is performing well. He has no responsibility for our recent results,” said the Argentinian technician. Praising the professionalism of his goalkeeper, Sampaoli insisted that a change in this position was not on the agenda.

Reflection focused on other priorities

The coach also clarified that if adjustments must be considered in the squad, it is not the performance of Steve Mandanda which is in question. “Today, I don't really ask myself any questions about the identity of the goalkeeper. If there are positions to think about, they are others than that of goalkeeper,” he added, dismissing thus the rumors of imminent recruitment for this position.

While is going through a period of transition with the arrival of Sampaoli, the message is clear: Steve Mandanda retains the confidence of his coach, a guarantee of stability for the group.
