Stade Rennais seems to have found color under the leadership of Jorge Sampaoli. After an inaugural defeat in Lillethe Rouge et Noir crushed AS Saint-Étienne this weekend at Roazhon Park with a clear score of 5-0. At the heart of this demonstration of force, Arnaud Kalimuendo distinguished himself by scoring a historic hat-trick, becoming the first Rennes player to score a hat-trick against in Ligue 1 since Martin Terrier, on December 5, 2021.
An uncertain future despite the feat
Despite this remarkable performancethe 22-year-old striker could well leave the Rennes ship from the next winter transfer window. According to information from Mohamed Toubache-Ter, there would be 50% chance that Kalimuendo or son coéquipier Amine Gouiri pack their bags in January. “One of the two is definitely about to leave”specified the insider on his X account, thus launching the call to suitors.
A departure which would weaken the Rennes attack
The possible departure of one of its two major offensive players would represent a hard blow for Stade Rennais. Kalimuendo, who arrived from RC Lens last summer, quickly earned his starting place and established himself as one of the safe values of the Breton attack. His association with Gouiri has often caused sparks even if this season the results have not yet been there. Lose one of the two elements of this formidable doublet could considerably weaken offensive potential Red and Black without quick replacement.
A lively transfer window in perspective
Although the club has not yet communicated on the subject, the next few weeks promise to be hectic on the Roazhon Park side. In addition to the Kalimuendo/Gouiri case, Stade Rennais will also have to look into recruiting reinforcements in order to meet Sampaoli's requirements and aim for the top places in the ranking. A lively winter transfer window is therefore looming for Breton leaders.
