ASSE faced Stade Rennais this Saturday at 5 p.m., with the hope of confirming its momentum after a 1-0 victory against Montpellier. Unfortunately, the Greens had a catastrophic evening (5-0). Broadcast on BeIN Sport, this meeting leaves three major lessons to remember.
The Greens don't know how to travel
This is an observation that we make after each ASSE trip: Olivier Dall'Oglio's men do not know how to travel. This season, they have had a chaotic journey. However, this first match against the Monegasque ogre (lost 1-0), suggested positive things. Finally, the following two matches (Brest 4-0 and Nice 8-0), will only leave room for reality and concern.
After seven away matches this season, the club has 6 defeats and a draw. A total of 1 point out of 21 was obtained… An alarming finding. Beyond this insufficient accounting finding, the Greens are taking water from all sides on the move. In 7 matches, the club has conceded 25 goals outside its bases (compared to 5 goals conceded in 6 matches at Geoffroy Guichard). With an average of more than 3 away goals conceded, the difficulty in changing the accounting aspect is gigantic.
Can ASSE save itself without performing away? It's a risky bet!
Executives who weigh down the ASSE team?
Unfortunately, ASSE took on water from all sides in Rennes. Mathieu Cafaro's play in the match (penalty + red card) made the task impossible for the team. Beyond this failure of the former Reims, there are several who have not been up to the task. The Batubinsika-Abdelhamid duo was in great difficulty, as was the generous Léo Petrot guilty of the second penalty in a somewhat naive manner.
Also in the heart of the game, the team struggled to exist. Performing well in recent weeks, the Ekwah-Mouton-Bouchouari trio has been overtaken by Rennes circles. They particularly weakened on the technical aspect where all three are capable of much better.
Finally, Ibrahim Sissoko was in difficulty against Léo Ostigard and Zuriko Davitashvili is like the team: brilliant at home, but disappointing away! A combination which justifies the difference of five goals between the two teams at the end of the meeting this Saturday at 5 p.m.
One grain of sand and everything disappears?
ASSE gives the impression of being incapable of turning a situation around when it suffers the opening score. Indeed, except in Nantes where they managed to bring back a point, the Greens have never been able to return an unfavorable score. The four matches where ASSE won, they opened the scoring. Indeed, Olivier Dall'Oglio's players seemed to collapse when they conceded the opener… and even more so away from home!
However, the match in Lyon seemed to have offered room for improvement in this aspect! Indeed, just like in Monaco during the first match, the Greens had held back during their weak moments before offering themselves a few opportunities which could have allowed them to grab a draw. In vain.
The question therefore deserves to be asked: will ASSE be able to save itself without being able to reverse unfavorable scenarios?
