Girondins4Ever – [CdF] Girondins4Ever notes after

This Sunday, December 1, 2024, the
Girondins de competed in the 8th round of the French Cup at home against the club
Herbaria. The meeting was played at Sainte-Germaine Stadium.

The players of Bruno Irles had the mission to show their level and above all to leave nothing to the Herbiers, to show them what to expect in the championship. For this, the Bordeaux team immediately got to the heart of the matter, setting a high pace and pressing. This pressing, carried out by the whole group, undermined the Vendée who often had the ball taken away during losses. Andy Carroll often unhooked to bring the ball up, leaving the point to Merdji. On the sides, Mutyaba was very strong, not hesitating to create imbalance in his opponent. Same story for Soufiane Bahassa. The Marine et Blanc therefore took advantage of opposing errors and their pressing to open the scoring with a good service from Mutyaba to Carroll who crosses towards Merdji (18th). The attacker will do it again after losing the ball in the 36th minute, recovering the ball by attempting a low shot which hits the mark (2-0). Behind, little to report except that Diaw is solid, that Baï is impressive and is moving more and more forward, and that Depussay plays very well and cleanly in this left-back role. Diabaté is true to himself, stopping two dangerous strikes.

In the second half, Bordeaux continued to show its superiority and created several situations, notably a missed shot from Merdji, alone in front of goal. Trazié is content to do the job in the middle while Louveau is physically present. Even if the 3-0 goal is long overdue, the Bordeaux side are in control and Les Herbiers cannot find the solution to break the deadlock. The fault also lies with a Diabaté who doesn't let anything get by, like this parade in the 73rd and this tap in the 94th. Bruno Irles rotates, gives playing time to some, including the young Ndong Bbang who is experiencing his first in N2. Diallo also returned, but it was laborious and even irritating at times. He gets two huge chances but makes bad choices. Between poor positioning, head down cross, missed opening, and missed face to face with the goalkeeper, his entry is worrying. But the Girondins will hold on to their qualification.

In the end Bordeaux won, left its mark on a direct competitor in the championship, and continued to make the supporters dream. All we can do is hope for a Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 club to celebrate this achievement at Matmut.

Here are the summary grades we gave to the players as well as the coach:
