Bad week for Nice which, three days after suffering a slap in the Europa League against Rangers (1-4), lost heavily by the same score in Lyon. A bad moment in particular for Florian Maurice, a former Lyon player and manager whose reunion with his former club was painful. The Nice sports director was also very annoyed after the match, clearly resenting the refereeing body.
Maurice denounces a penalty not whistled
In comments relayed by Olympique and Lyonnais after the match, the Nice leader pointed out errors which weigh very heavily in his eyes. “I will be the one who will complain to the refereeing, but I believe that there are certain situations which were judged very poorly by the referee, by the VAR. It's a big disappointment tonight. (…) We could have led the score if the referee had not canceled the goal due to a small mistake by Rosario. If we don't call a penalty on Guessand in the second half and we call this foul beforehand on a Lyon player, I find that scandalous. I haven't spoken with the referee, but he can give me as many explanations as he wants. I watched the images again and it's not possible not to call a penalty for an action like that. We can get back to 2-2, I think (editor’s note: 3-2 in reality). We will have to ask him the question, but I noticed this (Sunday) evening that there was a complete hiccup at the arbitration level,” Florian Maurice told the press.
But at the microphone of DAZN, Maurice released other even more acidic remarks which could cost him dearly. “Tonight, the referee had a white jersey, not a yellow jersey. It’s a scandal what Mr. Dechepy did. What is he waiting for? That he slit her throat? Take him by the neck? What does Mr. Dechepy do? I'm going to be suspended by the League because I spoke about the refereeing, which was not at all good tonight. »
