Kylian Mbappé's transfer to Real Madrid has so far turned into a disappointment. Not to mention a fiasco. Despite the absence of transfer fees on his departure from Paris SG, the French striker represents a colossal investment which raises questions.
The numbers are dizzying. Between his signing bonus estimated at nearly 154 million euros (spread over five years), his weekly salary of 300,000 euros and his bonus, Mbappé has cost the Madrid club around 19.7 million euros since his arrival.
Nine goals worth the equivalent of €2.2 million for Real Madrid
The ratio is relentless: almost 2.2 million euros per goal scored. Nine achievements in 18 matches which do not compensate for the immense expectations placed on him. The Spanish media are starting to question the relevance of this recruitment.
Real Madrid, already behind in La Liga and in difficulty in the Champions League, is paying the price of a bet which is slow to materialize. Mbappé must now transform pressure into performance.
