Elye Wahi joined theABOUT during the last summer transfer window after an almost agitated start from RC Lens. The young French striker could, however, have had a different trajectory.
Mercato OM: Elye Wahi, a risky bet for Marseille?
OM has not skimped on the means to renew its workforce. Elye Wahi is one of the star recruits poached from RC Lens in financial difficulties. However, the Frenchman cannot confirm the expectations placed on him. As with the Sang et Or, he is struggling to regain his standards from a few years ago in Montpellier.
After twelve days of the championship in the colors of OM, Elye Wahi has only scored two small goals. His disappointing performances even ended up relegating him to the sidelines to the detriment of Neal Maupay. While he struggles to integrate perfectly into Roberto De Zerbi's system, unexpected revelations come out about the young striker's transfer window.
Elye Wahi failed by PSG
PSG's 2023 summer transfer window was marked by the arrival of Bradley Barcola from OM. If the Lyon winger quickly convinced, the Parisian club initially had other plans. According to journalist Romain Molina, PSG had targeted Elye Wahi, before turning to Barcola for unexpected reasons.
“Basically, PSG had to recruit Elye Wahi because relations with Montpellier were good and Wahi's new agent was very close to the Parisian leaders”explains Molina. Wahi, a promising young striker, seemed to be the ideal profile to strengthen the Parisian attack. However, the matter took an unexpected turn due to the intervention of Jorge Mendes, the player's former agent.
“His former agent, Jorge Mendes, took revenge by revealing compromising information about Wahi to all interested clubs. It is for this reason that PSG abandoned this file and turned to Barcola”reveals Molina.
