“Your sports director watches every game!”

Loaned without purchase option by ASSE to Quevilly- this season, Beres Owusu currently has the confidence of his coach. We were able to speak with David Carré, in charge of the QRM first team since this summer. Interview to read below.

“The arrival of Beres Owusu was quite late, can you explain to us how it took place?

It arrived at the beginning of September. In National we can still recruit after August 31 and we were looking to strengthen this central defender position. We knew that Beres was looking to go on loan, I had very good feedback from certain ASSE players that I know and he had a very consistent match against Monaco, in a right-back position which is not his. Then, everything went very quickly thanks to the ASSE sports director.

How do you judge his start to the season?

I trust him. We were clearly looking for a defender of his profile. He took a red card against which earned him a suspension against 13, but apart from one match where he was a substitute, he always played 90 minutes. His performances are very satisfactory, but he is a young player who is developing and who still needs to improve. In defensive duels, he is a very effective boy whether in the air or on the ground. Now, we are also trying to get him to take a step forward in terms of raises.

So recovery is its main axis of progress?

He comes to us with the ambition of winning at Saint-Etienne, in Ligue 1. So he must progress in certain areas. I think he has a decent recovery, but in a higher level championship you have to progress in this area.

From a human point of view, can we imagine that everything is going well?

Yes, everything is fine. He is a very dedicated, professional and serious guy. He has a good mentality, he is a competitor. It's a pleasure to talk with him and I find that he has a good analysis of his services. He is even quite hard on himself in evaluating his matches. He has the mindset to progress from match to match and from month to month.

Do you think the prospect of him one day winning in Ligue 1 is possible?

We can't really predict it. But Saint-Etienne loaned him so that he could have playing time. And he doesn't have this playing time because he is on loan, but because he is good. ASSE looks at him a lot and if the club is so interested in this boy, it is because they are counting on him. So I wish him to establish himself in Ligue 1 one day.

How exactly does ASSE monitor the loan?

At Saint-Etienne you have a sports director who watches all the matches of loaned players. So it’s a pleasure to talk with, the follow-up is exemplary. We had decided to limit loans compared to previous seasons. Beres is the only loan player we have, but things are going very well.

How do you judge your team's start to the season?

We have 19 new players in the squad, it took time to adapt. Today we are in rather good momentum (no defeats in the last 5 TCC matches, editor's note) but nothing is certain. We will try to settle in well in this championship, to confirm our progress. The objective is to have the best possible ranking at the end of the season. Qualifying for the Coupe de against Paris FC also allowed us to talk positively about our players and the club.

This season at QRM is your first as head coach of an A team (he has already coached the reserve and been an assistant, editor's note). What are your prospects from a personal point of view?

My only goal is to have the best season possible. We are starting to have a real playing identity. We have a group with boys in development and others more at the end of their careers. The idea is just to build a group that will assert itself from season to season, that's how I see myself. »
