Like every week, the Sainté Night Club met. Adrien Ponsard, former ASSE striker, and Pierre deciphered the Greens' victory at length while looking ahead to the next AS Saint-Etienne meeting. Excerpts.
Pierre (Ex-Sainté Inside) : “It was laborious, but in such a match, the most important thing is to win it. It doesn't matter how. I'm not worried at all. It doesn't worry me that we didn't manage to make a pass. That doesn't worry me because we proved in previous matches, notably against Lyon, against Strasbourg, that we could play better. We will be able to repeat some great performances. The most important thing was to win it. Especially when we see the calendar that awaits us until the end of December. We really had to keep the clock ticking and put Montpellier at bay. The job was arduous, but the job was done.”
ASSE must quickly turn to Rennes
Adrien Ponsard (Ex-ASSE) : “I found a fighting team, they fought and it was solid. Note that this is the second match where we have kept a clean sheet. There, it starts to take hold. Ekwah had a very good match behind. He helped Abdelhamid a lot. Abdelhamid who comes back well too. Maybe we buried it a little too quickly. […] The team that won was the only team that scored. We fought with our weapons.
We will have to quickly turn to the next match in Rennes. It's a team that is in tough conditions, like Montpellier was. We'll have to play with our weapons and run into them. Have a warrior attitude, a bit like Léo Pétrot. Technically, he's not a great player, but he's a warrior who doesn't give up.“
Bouchouari has become indispensable
Adrien Ponsard (Ex-ASSE) : “Abdelhamid is not the future of ASSE in terms of defense. But in this match, he was able to recover and give confidence. He made some good interceptions. In Rennes it will be another game against Gouiri and Kalimuendo. In any case, Abdelhamid gained confidence in this match. Will that give him something in the next match? That's a real question.“
Benjamin Bouchouari? It has become an indisputable holder. He is the only player capable of taking the ball and moving forward. As he plays, he gains confidence every week. He showed it to us again. He recovered balls, recovered balls. And he is decisive because he scores. That's what he was missing. This player has great potential. He must continue to play with his holder.”
