Pierre Sage's little clue about the future of Cherki and Fofana

At the end of 's draw on Saturday in (1-1), Pierre Sage gave his feelings on the future of Rayan Cherki and Malick Fofana, while OL could be forced to sell certain elements in the next transfer window to bail out its boxes.

He was once again the best Lyon player on the pitch. In ascending form since his contract extension in September, and even sparkling in sequences, Rayan Cherki once again stood out during the draw in Reims (1-1), Saturday, on behalf of the 12th day of Ligue 1. His first period was almost perfect, with constant activity in Champagne, high-class gestures, and even an improbable headed goal to open the scoring.

Sage's malicious response

If his performance declined upon returning from the locker room, like the entire Lyon collective, the young attacking midfielder (21 years old) confirmed that he was an essential part of Pierre Sage's eleven. Who obviously hopes to keep him until the end of the season. Him but also Malick Fofana (19 years old), while the future of his two nuggets seems uncertain given the situation of the club.

With finances in the red and the sanctions recently pronounced by the DNCG (ban on recruitment in the winter transfer window, demotion as a precautionary measure at the end of the current season), the Gones could be forced to sell certain elements this winter.

Including Cherki or Fofana, two players with (very) high market value? Asked about this on Saturday, Pierre Sage was rather optimistic. “Are they going to stay this winter? I think so,” he responded to DAZN. “Am I sure of that? I’m sure I think so,” added the Lyon coach mischievously with a smile. Under contract until 2026, Cherki is particularly appreciated by Liverpool, as explained by RMC Sport, while Fofana, recruited last January, is linked to OL until 2028.
