The start of the 2024-2025 season for Montpellier Hérault SC in Ligue 1 is marked by great difficulties. After 11 days, the club occupies last place in the standings with only 7 points, a start that concerns both supporters and management. Despite everything, Montpellier managed to obtain an encouraging victory against Brest (3-1), giving some hope for the future.
A difficult start to the season in League 1
This season started with strong instability. Michel Der Zakarian, initially in charge, was replaced by Jean-Louis Gasset in the hope of rectifying the situation. The schedule has been merciless for the Montpellier residents, with heavy defeats against teams like PSG (6-0) and Marseille (0-5). The club, however, showed a revival against Auxerre by obtaining a victory (3-2) before falling into a series of defeats.
President Laurent Nicollin remains optimistic, but aware of the challenges to overcome. In his statements, he calls for a total commitment from the players to fight match after match and hopes that the team can still aim to maintain. He emphasizes that regaining a combative state of mind will be essential to get out of this dangerous zone.
With upcoming matches against formidable opponents like Lille and Lens, the task promises to be difficult. However, if Montpellier manages to capitalize on solid performances like the one against Brest and regain positive momentum, the club could still hope to turn the situation around and avoid a descent to Ligue 2.
ASSE does not want to revive Montpellier
This Saturday at 7 p.m., the Greens face Wahbi Khazri's team in the cauldron. In the same maintenance mission, the two teams want to score against a direct competitor. While the Greens are without Maçon, Monconduit, Briançon and Nadé, Montpellier also has numerous absences. Akor Adams, Christopher Jullien, Kiki Kouyate, Jordan Ferri, Birama Toure, Khalil Fayad, Othmane Maamma are absent.
